Medusa: The Largest Captured Snake In The World

Being this long isn’t very helpful when you’re kept in a cage. Medusa has been known to bite her tail instead of dinner. Snakes tend to do that – reptilian brains aren’t something to be envious of. If you ever feel the need to look the sucker in the eye: off to The Edge of Hell Haunted House in Kansas City. If that doesn’t freak you out just yet, she also learned a cool trick. Upon command, almost like a dog, sweet Medusa stands completely still while visitors go through the haunted house. So yeah, they’re not going to see me there.

When Medusa is not busy with giving people a heart attack, she is taken care of by Larry Edgar, the general manager of Gates of Hell. He bought the snake as a baby when she was just as big as his finger and watched her grow. At the time he had no idea how big she would get. Reticulated pythons are indeterminate growers, which means they continue growing indefinitely. In old age they grow at a slower rate, but still keep growing. In 2011 Medusa slithered her way into the Guiness Book of World Records. She beat Fluffy’s record. Fluffy was also a reticulated python and held the record for the longest snake in captivity. She was 7,31m long. Also, who the hell names their pet snake “fluffy” if it’s bigger than a car?
